So apparently..

During the 1800's when cargo ships ran into trouble and sank, the sailors who found the crates containing pigs and chickens amongst the floating debris would survive. This was because of how buoyant pig and chicken carcasses become - or so Cory would have me understand
I guess after a while this became common knowledge (...) and so pigs and chickens became a sign of good luck or survival... so people started having theses two poor animals tattooed on their feet. Another version of the story that i found - here - contains quite a bit less death..

regardless, the piece came out amazing - Kae does some pretty awesome things with a tattoo gun.

I definitely didn't have much time to take pictures this weekend - I was busy having way to much fun riding my bike and getting wild with everyone from out of (and in) town. It seemed everything aligned to make this weekend succeed despite a few snags (venue cancelations, predictions of shitty weather, unfortunate 'ahhhem' wipeouts, and I'm sure Cory and Megan can add a few to the list.) I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!

Have to give a HUGE thank you to Megan, Cory and everyone else who had a hand in organizing such a great - successful event, You guys rule.

All my life i have know about these rockslides that occur randomly throughout BC. I just figured that these slopes would just be the most epic natural occurring trundling playground ever. Unfortunately I was mistaken - it's not that great. The whole slope is pretty loose so when you get a rock going, the other rocks steal all its momentum. Saying that, the hike up was way cool and really beautiful.

I really enjoy going up here. It's so serene there right now. The bay our cabin sits in has quite a few summer homes that remain unoccupied during the the three cooler seasons. We pretty much have the bay to ourselves. Its a good place to get thinking done, explore, canoe, and (learn how to) sail. I loves it, and so does everyone who visits.

So this morning around 10am, I got a call from my friend louis with the idea to try and get up to Castle Rock and see its majesty up close.. I agreed and after a couple cups of coffee and a sammich me and the mongrel hopped in the car to meet Lou at his aunts house, to load up the canoe we needed to cross the squamish river.

Upon arrival to the launch spot (the spit) I realized the tide couldn't have been better. Launching was a breeze - Speaking of breezes there was almost no wind, while just the day before it was gusting to 80km.. Luck was on our side? As we sculled our way to the adjacent marsh, I realized the incoming tide was countering the flow of the river meaning we could head directly across.. Another lucky break. 7 or 8 minuets later we made it to the canal we were aiming for and shortly after that we were out of the canoe headed up the hillside... I had no fucking idea how difficult this was going to be. I ended up having to carry the dog up the last 100 meters of the climb which was basically 45 degrees and lightly dusted - with a foot of wet, slippery, snow. Anger. Anyways we finally got up to the base and decided that was as far as we were going to go. Puppies are not built for mountain climbing and I was tired of carrying him and falling on my face.

It turned out to be a Pretty cool spot. (see photos) We rested, took a bunch of pictures and then begun the admittedly, kind of fun descent.

All in all it was a pretty good little expedition. We did find out later, that there's an old logging road that goes around behind the rock that would have been 1000 times easier.. whatever. The hike built character and I'm pretty sure my dog gained a ton of xp points. Good day.

So, 'Bikes inside party' was this weekend. Good times were had by all. A large thankyou to organizers, Jim Hoehnle and Chris Bentzen. Also thankyou to Cody for organizing the hilarious bad party events.

Another sucsessful crabbing mission.. This time we were fortunate enough to catch two bigboybadboys. To make it even better, one was a Dungeness and the other a hefty Red Rock Crab. (biggest one I've caught so far)

Saturday night was the courier band extravaganza at the red gate and roommate dylan was shooting the event. This meant he needed to bring his (50+lbs?) pelican case.. In true courier form he decided to huck the old bastard in his [shoulder strap] bag o bags. I told him it wasn't possible. dylan is strong willed.

...Didn't change the fact that he had to bike to the show with that thing on back.
